Today it's really hard being me.

I haven't written in a while because I have been hellishly busy.

I am Stopping Wal*Mart. More exactly, I am trying to stop Avondale Estates from annexing the site that Wal*Mart has bought.

It takes a lot of time and energy. Activatin', like presidentin', is hard work.

For my troubles, I have been called names and told to take my little white self back home. I and the people I'm working with have all but been called racist honkies. It's not a pleasant task, this, but it has to be done.

We're not against Wal*Mart,. per se. We're against having a 24-hour Wal*Mart that sells beer and wine and guns and ammunition next door to a high school in an already beleaguered area. We're against the small businesses surrounding that site being driven out of business by a bad corporate neighbor. We're against property values going down and property taxes going up, and we're against 20,000 more trips a day at Columbia and Memorial.

On top of that, last Wednesday and Thursday I had such a horrific sinus headache that I stayed home Thursday and Friday. Once the headache passed, a cold set in and it's just miserable. It's like being crazy and retarded in outer space. I have vertigo, for crying out loud. I keep hacking and sniffing, and each morniing I hock up something from the back of my throat that's about as big as my head. Mostly I am tired and worn out and sapped of all energy. I could go to sleep right now if I could be left alone long enough.

If you are related to me or a childhood friend of mine or you have a child looking over your shoulder, then don't scroll down this page. There's a CNN photo down there that says a lot and I'm not inclined to remove it, so you'll have to be proactive at your end. If you're going to be offended, then don't look. However, if you send me a reasonable and sensible response with your name on it, I will put it up here. Unfortunately (for you) I get to pick what's reasonable and sensible.

Yesterday was election day for what is likely the most important election in the history of our country. My candidate did not win.

Certainly I have feelings about this.

Would I be okay with my guy winning with electoral votes even if he lost the popular vote? Absolutely.

Am I saddened by this state of affairs? Yes, of course.

Do I think this is the end of the world or The American Way? No, probably not.

All I do know is that sitting around bitching about what's done isn't going to help, and it's not going to make you feel better. It's time to buck up, buttercup. Pick a cause that's important to you and act locally.

Four years isn't a lifetime unless you're only four.
